Campus Bird Count 2024: With a view to responding to our immediate environs, the NITK campus bird count was organised on 18th February 2024 as part of a global-level activity called Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). About 65 people participated in this activity inclusive of students, faculty, and members of the public. 101 species were observed during this activity of about 150 minutes.
Campus Bird Count 2025: Campus Bird Count 2025 turned in a better number of participants: 32 children and 80 adults participated in this year’s program held last Sunday, i.e. 16 February 2025. The total number of species witnessed during this activity was comparatively less: it was 91 this time. The birders divided themselves into 5 different groups on the Western and Eastern sides of the Campus. The children were guided and sensitised towards birds and nature conservation through several fun games and activities. This programme was in collaboration with the Early Bird programme of the Ataavi Foundation executed in Mangalore by Mr. Aravind Kudla.
